Mordialloc Seniors Community
The heart of the community in an Australian first
Generations young and old are provided for in one thriving community at Mordialloc. In a first for Australia, aged care, primary care and childcare will combine in one place, operated by a single provider, our client TLC.
Reflecting this contemporary interpretation, the dynamic built form uses fluidity and curved elements through the façade. The internal planning helps to retain a human scale and to communicate the building’s function through the architecture; caring for the local community. Cantilevered structures over both main entries soften the transition from the street to the building while protecting the users from the elements.
The centrally located community and medical hub is naturally lit from above by an open oculus which gradually expands as it climbs through the building. Lounge and dining spaces are afforded direct access to external spaces, the vistas serving as a visual connection with the community functions below.
A café/retail precinct activates the South-West corner of the site, linking the public and private functions of the development. The top floor steps back significantly to the facades to avoid overshadowing the private open spaces of the neighbouring properties.
“The soft, undulating timber soffits create welcoming, inviting spaces that add a sense of grandeur while embracing a human scale.” Quentin Seik
