Kingston Gardens Seniors Living
Folding planes wrap and cascade across rooflines and facades.
Extending this facility for Japara will deliver an additional 68 beds to the adjacent site, along with extensive upgrades to the existing building and rooms.
There were multiple site challenges, in particular significant level changes across the two sites, so central linkways flatten and smooth the two designs together. The level differences meant the existing building sat low, and lacked a street presence, so a new prominent entry was a key feature of the brief.
Strong linear forms define the new entry, with surrounding rooflines acting as folding planes, wrapping across and down the facades to provide a strong presence to the street, and a welcoming entry for residents and their guests. Timber cladding softens these strong forms, applied to the soffits and internal faces. Natural materials are further utilised indoors, through the interior concepts, and furnishings.
