Capturing hillside views in this sanctuary for seniors

The studio team blended the existing facility seamlessly with a contemporary addition of 34 rooms, taking George Vowell to over 120 beds with a renewed focus on wellness and lifestyle through a central community hub.

The extension was designed to sit naturally with the existing building, intentionally defining transition points between the old and new. Timber clad transition boxes acted as a break point and used high raked ceilings internally with large picture windows at either end, drawing the viewpoint outside and across the surrounding hills.

The use of extensive glazing in addition to the picture windows at the ends of every corridor, providing residents with landmarks to enhance wayfinding across the expansive and meandering facility.
