Celebrating 11 years at VIA // Thomas Mitton promoted to Associate Director
VIA Architects is pleased to announce the promotion of Thomas Mitton to Associate Director, coinciding with his 11-year milestone with the studio. Over the past decade, Thomas has been instrumental in shaping VIA’s growth, bringing accomplished design expertise and a commitment to mentoring our emerging talent.
Joining VIA as an Architectural Graduate in 2013, Thomas quickly stood out for his sharp eye for detail and ability to navigate complex design challenges. His collaborative leadership style and results-driven approach have contributed significantly to many of VIA’s most ambitious projects across diverse sectors, including residential, seniors living, education, healthcare and data centres.
“Thomas’ promotion reflects the respect he’s earned within the studio and among our clients and partners,” said Frank Bambino, Managing Director at VIA. “His ability to combine design creativity with technical rigour sees our projects not only meet but exceed expectations.”
Mark Allan, Director at VIA, added, “Thomas’ approach captures what we value most as a studio—collaborative and considered design that addresses real-world challenges. His leadership has been integral to our team, and I’m thrilled to see him step into this well-deserved role.”
Thomas taking on this new position comes at a pivotal time for VIA, as the studio builds on the success of multi-award-winning projects like Pavilions Blackburn Lake and TLC Healthcare | Mordialloc. Recent milestones, such as the permit approval for visionary project Beachleigh Mount Eliza, highlight VIA’s dedication to reimagining the approach to seniors living design. The lifestyle-led luxury community demonstrates architecture that meets the evolving expectations of a new ageing demographic.
Building on his established position within the studio’s leadership team, Thomas now joins Frank and Mark at a more senior level, alongside Associates Graeme Heatley and Luke Bonham. Together, the team leverages complementary expertise and a shared commitment to delivering exceptional design outcomes across all projects.
Reflecting on the news, Thomas shared, “I’m honoured to step into this role and grateful for the opportunities I’ve had at VIA. Over the past 11 years, I’ve worked alongside an incredible team dedicated to creating meaningful architectural solutions and I’m excited to continue leading the studio alongside Frank and Mark as we take on projects that strive to challenge conventions.”
Congratulations to Thomas on this duly earned new position and his continued contributions to the success of VIA.
