REINVIGORATING COMMUNITY SPACES // CELEBRATING THE DELIVERY OF POWERFUL OWL PARK

We are pleased to announce the completion of Powerful Owl Park, the latest community hub delivered in collaboration with Development Victoria as part of the North East Link Program’s investment into enhancing local sports infrastructure. This marks the third successful community hub our studio has supported the delivery of, following the earlier completions of Ford Park in Ivanhoe and Binnak Park in Watsonia North.

Situated near Birrarrung Park with scenic views of the Yarra River, Powerful Owl Park is ideally positioned for both active and passive recreation. Its accessibility via local bus networks ensures it serves as a welcoming destination for both community members and visitors alike.

A HUB FOR ALL AGES

The new precinct features three soccer pitches—one synthetic and two natural—providing versatile spaces for players of all ages and skill levels. The Balit-muk-muk Pavilion offers modern amenities, including a fully equipped kitchen and an event space that facilitates community gatherings beyond game days. The pavilion also includes spectator seating, with 176 car spaces included within the precinct to enhance visitor convenience.

Integrated walking and cycling paths connect the park to the Yarra River and surrounding neighbourhoods, encouraging active lifestyles and offering the community a serene environment to enjoy.

CELEBRATING LOCAL HERITAGE

Located on Templestowe Road in Bulleen, Powerful Owl Park is designed to meet the diverse needs of the local community while honouring the area’s natural heritage. The park’s name pays tribute to the Powerful Owl, a significant species in the Yarra River corridor, while the Balit-muk-muk Pavilion, named after the Wurundjeri translation for Powerful Owl, serves as the focal point of the precinct.

The park’s three soccer pitches each have names that further reflect local heritage. The Dino Negri Field (the synthetic pitch) honours a prominent community member, while the Balayung Field (“bat”) and the Waa Field (“crow”) are named after Wurundjeri symbols, adding deeper cultural resonance to the area.

COMMUNITY-FOCUSED

The landscaping at Powerful Owl Park emphasises community connection, incorporating new tree plantings and green spaces that create serene hubs for relaxation and recreation. This commitment to revitalising community spaces reflects VIA’s core values of enhancing lives through human-centric design, ensuring the park remains a lasting asset for the Bulleen community for years to come.

With the completion of Powerful Owl Park, VIA continues to play a key role in Melbourne’s urban transformation. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Development Victoria as we work together on future projects that aim to deliver even greater benefits to local communities across the city.
